THE RISE OF ASIAN

The culture of Asia encompasses the collective and diverse customs and traditions of art which have been practiced and maintained since ancient time such as Japanese woodblock prints and Javanese batik which influenced to a few areas in Southeast Asia. The Asian inspiration is seamlessly translated into SIRIVANNAVARI & S’Homme Spring-Summer 2022, aptly titled ‘The Rise of Asian’.

In the words of H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, the Creative Director of SIRIVANNAVARI, “The meaningful symbols of Asian culture were brought to my attention, and integrated with the Maison’s semi-couture and futuristic tailoring technique. As a final touch, the collection incorporates the detail of Asian arts, otherworldly twist, to create a sense of femininity and modernity.

“As a way of paying homage to the civilisation of Asian culture and arts, some symbolic details have been delicately reanimated.  In particular, I introduced a new alluring shape of peplum blouse in toile with ‘Orikami’ pattern; a tulle blouse intricately feather embellished with an iconic ‘Crane’; sky clouds blue faded tie-dye denim collection echoing local Thai tie-dye technique; and of course, an interwoven leather skirt with ‘Pi-Koon’ motif which is an ancient Thai floral motif,” said H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

The SIRIVANNAVARI and S’Homme Spring-Summer 2022 collection features a total of 53 looks (45 womenswear and 8 menswear). The show commences with a selection of designs, featuring a brocade jacket with Orikami pattern in beige, paired with a wide-legged pants.  A white silk jacket with embroidered motifs of ‘Koi’, complimented by interwoven leather skirt with fringe details; an Orikami peplum top embroidered with cranes is paired with a biker pants in gold silk; a draped cocktail dress in neon green inlaid with embellished white lace at the hem; an off-shoulder evening gown, made of salmon and ivory silk, with a dramatic bow at waistline, is girded at the hips in the 19th-century style; a bridal gown in white lace is accentuated with multilayer crinoline tulle.

The spotlight shines on the marvelous embroidery, courtesy of the SIRIVANNAVARI Atelier and Academy. The exquisite craftsmanship of the Maison’s in-house workshop of couture embroidery is clearly visible, from intricate gold-threaded embellishments, to encrusted sequin elements, and beads that adorn the delicate tulle and brocade. Key embroidered motifs feature the ‘Koi’ on fuchsia and amethyst silk moiré, ‘Crane’ on tulle and silk.

As anticipated, graphic prints – a key element of the brand’s DNA – remain a highlight. Here, the Princess has created a signature print especially for the season. Drawn from her personal sketches, it features a collage of Engimono, Japanese symbol of luck, such as Chrysanthemum (wealth), Crane (longevity), Woman (empowerment).  This collage print can be seen from a silk dress with a 3D drapery detail at the waistline.  In addition, Batik prints –  Javanese inspired and ‘S’ motifs  are incorporated throughout the collection, from ready-to-wear items such as asymmetrical skirt and one shoulder blouse in vibrant hues to a bolero jacket with a capri pants. Moreover, the newest Maison’s monogram, named ‘Horseshoe’ is introduced in a new line of swimwear and accessories.

The Bijoux Collection continues to be a key highlight. The line offers a seamless blend of Asian details, along with the Maison’s iconic emblems such as crane, peacock, Orikami, keypad lock, coral, wave and the iconic ‘S’ logo. Embodying effortless grace and true individuality, the fashion jewellery collection is characterised by semi-precious stones such as opal, malachite, carnelian and fresh water pearl. Notable designs include earring adorned with fresh water pearl and coral shaped charm with enamel detail, a wave ring with fascinating ‘S’ logo charm and stones, keypad lock and Orikami earrings, and bangle in gold metal, encrusted with opals and crystals. Also in the line are chain link and body chain in gold metal

SIRIVANNAVARI Spring-Summer 2022 also features Italian leather goods, to complement and complete an everyday look. This season’s signature bag takes on an edgy and glamorous attitude – design codes that are clearly visible from the collection’s highlights. The slouchy boho interwoven leather bag comes in tricolour (orange, blue and white) with fringe details, while the two way carry leather bag is accentuated by stipe quilting technique and interchangeable straps (gold metal and braided leather strap). The boxy wood handbags featuring ‘S’ collage with special laser-cut technique are also available, along with the interwoven bamboo strips in ‘S’ motif in fuchsia and remarkable veneer wooden top handle.
