Leica Gallery Frankfurt presents photographs of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya
From 28th June until 17th August 2024, the Leica Gallery Frankfurt was showing photographs by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya of Thailand. The Exhibition offers an insight into the works of the Princess, who has a special eye for casual moments. Her passion for telling stories through images is reflected in her travel photographs, in which she meticulously documents her diverse impressions. Particularly drawn to landscapes and special moments, her photographic style exudes a romantic essence. She skillfully weaves stories through the play of light and shadow.
H.R.H Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, the artist of the exhibition said ‘Nostalgically, photography has been a family affair since my grandfather (HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great) was an enthusiast. Then, I personally started studying photography when I was in high school. Nevertheless, there was a moment that really ignited my passion for photography which was a charity lingerie project raising a fund for breast cancer patients in Thailand. I did a photoshoot for that campaign which allowed me to work with many cameras that I never encountered before. That’s when I realised what I wanted to pursue’
Princess Sirivannnavari further stated that ‘Personally speaking, I like capturing landscapes, architecture or scenes which give the realistic feelings. I also enjoy taking black & white photos or ones that tell the true story of what happed there.’
Since her trip to Kenya in 2019, the Leica camera has become a loyal companion to the Princess. With it she captures the beauty of nature from her unique perspective. The exhibition at the Leica Gallery Frankfurt includes photographs from stunning destinations, including the timeless magic of Cairo and the Nile in Egypt, the enchanting city of Venice, to the picturesque landscape of Thailand, including the diverse islands of Kaeng Sam Phan Bok, Ubon Ratchathani.
‘The Leica Q made its debut in my photography journey in Kenya and I ended up having some really nice images of nature which I really enjoyed. And once again, I brought along this Leica Q to Kaeng Sam Phan Bok in Thailand which I managed to capture a wide landscape of the area, leaving a splendid impression on me, whereas I used Leica MP to take shots in Venice and the pictures turned out beautifully. And for my trip to Egypt, I planned to have a slightly more classic vibe and aimed to seize the moment when the sunlight romanticising over the Nile river. That’s why I chose Leica MP’, concluded the artist of the exhibition.
In addition, the exhibition presents her fashion photography, which shows the influence of her travels on her eponymous fashion label, ‘SIRIVANNAVARI’. This offers visitors an insight into the representation of Her Royal Highness’s creations through the art of photography.
Her photos always bear an unmistakable signature and invite viewers to go on a journey of imagination beyond the boundaries of the image. Permeated by a warm and pleasant atmosphere, her work makes you want to explore distant.
